An export button does not prove that a business can move its operations. An export rehearsal examines whether the data is complete, understandable and reusable without the old supplier.
Choose a representative scope
Include active and old records, attachments, custom fields, permissions and relationships. A small contact CSV does not cover the real dependency.
Confirm integrity
Compare counts, key totals and a sample of records with the original system. Check encoding, timestamps, unique IDs and values that were converted.
Test reuse
Open the export in a neutral tool or a test destination. If it requires proprietary interpretation, the export is not yet an operational exit.
Record what cannot be exported
Automations, change histories, templates and audit logs may be missing. Decide what needs to be archived another way.
Measure time and people
Record the steps, duration, supplier support and skills required. The exercise turns a theoretical exit plan into a real cost.
