When conversion rate means something different in every report, the discussion becomes a negotiation over definitions. A KPI registry provides a shared reference without requiring every team to use a single dashboard.

Write the complete formula

Record the numerator, denominator, filters, time zone and measurement window. Natural language alone leaves critical details unresolved.

State the scope and exclusions

Describe the countries, products, statuses and cases excluded. A KPI can be correct yet unsuitable for a particular decision.

Connect the source and data lineage

Show the systems, transformations and canonical field. Users should know where a discrepancy will be investigated.

Assign an owner and a change process

Every KPI needs someone responsible for approving changes and notifying its users. A formula change should not silently appear in the next report.

Keep deprecated definitions

Do not erase the history. Note when each version applied so old reports and decisions remain understandable.
