A success message from one database does not prove that data has disappeared from caches, analytics, search indexes and third parties. Deletion verification requires an inventory, propagation status and evidence that does not retain the same sensitive content again.
Map the data journey
Connect sources, warehouses, SaaS platforms, exports, queues and backups. Identify an owner and a deletion or isolation mechanism for every system.
Use a stable request identifier
Track the request across the chain without copying unnecessary personal information. Each consumer should return its status and completion time.
Verify with an independent read
After deletion, search for the record through the actual interfaces and indexes. A successful API call does not guarantee propagation.
Define a clear backup policy
Where immutable backups cannot be modified, define their expiry and prevent the record from being restored to production. Describe actual behaviour rather than promising immediate removal.
Retain minimal evidence
Store scope, systems, timestamps and results, not the deleted content. Perform sample audits and an end-to-end test.
